MUST SEE! Transforming Sled-Cabin
Welcome to our transforming sled/cabin project! Spending a winter weekend in the woods of Alaska doesn't have to be frigid. We took our cabin with us!
This pop-up camper sled is a prototype. We are working on a concept and improving it each week. This video documents our first overnight, trial. There will be more videos to come as we test different designs and materials.
We wish you all the magic in the forest!

Captivating Treehouse Build -TIMELAPSE- (Start to Finish)
Переглядів 1,7 млн8 місяців тому
My grandson and I built this enchanted cabin, deep in the middle of Alaska. It was an amazing experience, one we will both treasure for the rest of our lives. Almost all of the materials are scrounged and salvaged, most are reclaimed from torn down buildings, or cut from old pallets. The door of the cabin was claimed from a century-old outhouse (imagine the stories it could tell). The moose ant...
BUSHCRAFT ALASKA - Winter Camp In The Taiga Forest
Переглядів 74 тис.Рік тому
I welcome you to come with me into the Boreal country of Alaska. This is the habitat of the fox and ptarmigan. It is deep in the Alaska Range, about 100 miles east of Denali. I hiked from above timberline, down to the forest below, where I could escape the wind and find a good supply of firewood. Snow fell with the night and I awoke to a fresh layer of powder. There will not be many more weeken...
Log Cabin Building TIMELAPSE Built by ONE MAN (and Grandson)
Переглядів 19 млнРік тому
Welcome to Alaska! You will enjoy this timelapse video of my Alaskan cabin project. It is a compilation taken from 35 separate videos (of the entire build) published on my channel over the past year. You can find all 35 videos on my channel under the "My Alaskan Log Cabin Project" playlist. I am an Alaskan. I have lived in Alaska for over 50 years (mostly in log cabins). At 10 years old I worke...
Into Alaska’s Moose Country
Переглядів 57 тис.Рік тому
Hunting for moose is part of our lives here in Alaska. As a child my family would gather each fall and spend a week processing moose and caribou meat for the winter. Not much has changed in the past 55 years. This year I had the privilege of taking my granddaughter on her first hunt. She kept her dad and I in chuckles the whole time. Our tent is the Arctic Oven Igloo with a wood-burning stove m...
Smoking Alaska Red Salmon (and working with roe)
Переглядів 52 тис.Рік тому
This past week Tanya and I smoked several batches of our red salmon. We think it is getting better each year. The meat is firm and flakey. Not too dry either. The natural oils of the fish are all still present making the smoked fillets almost irresistible. They are great in so many dishes. We also tried working with some King Salmon roe. It was our first such attempt and the results are a bit m...
Remote ALASKA LIVING (Making Caribou Jerky)
Переглядів 60 тис.Рік тому
This week a friend gave me a quarter of caribou. I am not particularly fond of caribou and typically turn it into sausage. But the lean meat also makes a fine jerky. Since this was a small quarter I decided to make up a batch of jerky. This batch took about 15 hours from start to finish. Below is the recipe I am using here - Enjoy 6 lbs of venison sliced against the grain, 1/4" thick 1/2 cup so...
ALASKA - SALMON SUPPLY - Netting BIG Copper River Reds!
Переглядів 66 тис.Рік тому
Dip Netting is an old Alaskan tradition. This popular method of fishing is open only to Alaska residents. My family has been fishing in the Copper River basin for over 55 years. We depend on the wild salmon (Reds, Kings, Silvers, and more) that spawn here, to fill our freezer for each winter. The scenery is absolutely breathtaking. It is almost entirely unchanged from when I was a boy. That is ...
Welcome To Our ALASKAN WEDDING
Переглядів 93 тис.Рік тому
As parents of ten children, this is not our first wedding, but it is the first one we have had up in the mountains at our remote cabin. Having a wedding off-grid has it's challenges but after months of planning and preparation we celebrated one of the most special days of our lives. We will never forget this wonderful experience, gathered together with our friends and family. We would like to e...
PREPARING for BAD WEATHER - (Alaska Off-Grid Cabin)
Переглядів 65 тис.Рік тому
This week Drox and I worked on the cabin, fished and sat in the sauna. It was wonderful. Spending the weekend in the mountains with my grandson is just the greatest thing. It is what life is all about. I love the joy and wonder of childhood, and in a sense, I am reminded of my own youth when we are out here together. Time flies and I know these moments won't last long. I am so grateful for thes...
HOW will all THIS GET DONE? (Alaskan, Off-Grid Wedding)
Переглядів 61 тис.Рік тому
This week we moved the old garden shed from a few hundred feet away and set it down next to the shop we are working on. Tanya plans to breath new life into the structure, converting it into a small kitchen for the reception. We also spent many hours working on the shop itself, installing insulation, vapor barrier and plywood sheeting on the interior walls. Things are starting to come together! ...
The PERFECT GIFT at NO COST (off-grid, Alaska)
Переглядів 49 тис.Рік тому
Known as a Viking Chair, a Stargazer Chair, an African Chair, a Bog Chair, or simply an X Chair, this ancient design is as beautiful as it is functional. The wood timbers used for this chair were salvaged from down by the shore of the lake. There was significant rot in parts of the boards and I had to search for pieces good enough to use for my project. But a chair like this must come from the ...
PREPARING For Our Off Grid WEDDING (Part 1)
Переглядів 64 тис.Рік тому
My son's remote, off grid wedding is only a few weeks away now. We have so much to do to prepare! He asked me to help him build a rustic, salvaged-wood bar for the celebration at the reception. This is a new experience for me but I am always excited to learn something new. This will be a two-part video because it proved to be more than a day's work. As always, thank you for being part of our fa...
RACING The RAIN! (Will We Get This Done?) Off Grid, Alaska
Переглядів 78 тис.Рік тому
We are almost finished framing in our shop roof and just in time too. In the summer the pass is a stormy place where it rains almost every day. But we absolutely love it! It is wild and wonderful and creates some of the most beautiful scenery imaginable. This week we had some wonderful company. Our son Dylan and his bride Mai are here helping us on the project. They are getting married in Augus...
A Night Alone In Alaska (ASMR)
Переглядів 69 тис.Рік тому
Welcome back to the cabin! The trail is finally open and I was able to make the first trip of the year by four wheeler. Spring has come late. As you can see, most of the bushes are still without leaves, and the lake below is locked in ice. Even so, it is good to be back. Everything is as I left it the last time I was here. Even the squirrel has stayed outside. There is a lot to be done here thi...
